Continental Southern Industries, or CSI, was founded by textile entrepreneur Elmer Goodwin in Greenville, South Carolina in 1970. Goodwin chose a name as "big" as his vision for the company: to grow Continental Southern Industries into a top supplier of vulcanized fiber parts to the textile industry. CSIs reputation for quality and reliability quickly grew, as well as its ability and willingness to meet each mills specific requirements.
To keep up with the latest advancements in technology, CSI switched to rotational molding in the 1980s. As CSIs textile client base continued to grow, the company began blow molding in 1988 in order to improve both production capacity and product quality. CSIs move into blow molding would prove to open doors to new markets beyond the textile industry.
Once CSI achieved competency in blow molding, we asked ourselves, What else can we blow mold?" CSI found its opportunity in the waste management industry and introduced a double wall plastic container lid in 1994.
Extremely durable and priced right, CSIs double wall lid quickly became an industry bestseller. Today CSI has emerged as one of the leading producers of double wall lids in the nation, manufacturing over tens of thousands of lids a year. Soon CSI began producing heavy duty plastic truck fenders in (year?), which were also tough enough to take the daily wear and tear of the waste management industry.
In 2003, CSI introduced a single wall lid to fill a void in the market for a quality blow-molded lid. With the lid market equally divided between double wall and single wall fans, CSI now has a lid to please everybody. Made from a better grade of plastic and blow-molded for consistent quality, CSIs new single wall lid features a tough, yet extremely flexible design that is destined to outsell and outperform the competition.
To maintain its production edge, CSI has invested over $5 million in the last few years in the latest in blow molding technology. "Anyone who visits CSI and knows anything about blow molding is usually impressed with the sophistication and number of our machines, " comments Rob McGowan, CEO of CSI.
In fact, word of CSIs unrivaled production capabilities has quickly spread. Before you could say "How big do you want it?," the company found itself accepting contracts in custom blow moldingspecializing in high volume jobs requiring large parts.
CSI: Big Into Custom Blow Molding
The waste industrys most durable plastic container lids and plastic truck fenders arent all that CSI makes. In fact, as early as 1994, CSI began accepting custom blow molding contracts. Heres how it went: A manufacturer asks their resin salesman or distributor, You know anybody that can produce large parts at a high volume?"
As a result, CSIs custom blow molding business has grown exponentially in the past few years, with the company providing a variety of products that serve many different markets. CSIs custom molding contracts include producing automotive door and engine parts, child safety seat components, pool filtering equipment, playground equipment, lawn care equipment, shrubbery tubs, storage sheds and more.
In fact, currently CSI is running seven different large parts of a major name-brand outdoor shed and then shipping them to a customers facility halfway across the country. Why choose a blow molding partner in Greenville, South Carolina? Simple - there is no one closer with CSIs capabilities. Only CSI had the machines to produce the required large parts and assure the necessary high output and level of quality. CSI presently operates five blow molding and two rotational molding machines in a 75,000 sq. ft plant that runs 24/7.
Customers will also find CSI easily able to accommodate any and all distribution requirements. CSI opened a 70,000-square foot Distribution Center in December 2002 to provide turnkey services such as packaging, shipping and warehousing of plastic parts. "We know of no other custom blow molder in the county providing our level of fulfillment," comments McGowan.
When you combine over $5 million in state-of-the-art technology with good old fashioned customer service, its easy to understand why CSI continues a pattern of unprecedented growth year after year. CSI pledges to do whatever it takes to keep customers satisfied" The companys legacy of superior customer responsiveness begun by founder Goodwin is fully supported today by CSIs dedicated team of employees - including among them, a core group of some of the most experienced blow molding technicians in the industry.
